What it means

What does the pedestrian crossing ahead sign mean in NSW?

A single walking figure strides over a row of black stripes, the zebra pattern you are about to meet on the road. The sign gives early notice, which matters where a curve, parked cars or a crest would hide the crossing until late. At the crossing itself anyone walking on it, or stepping onto it, has priority, and you must give way to them.

What to do

  1. 1

Slow so you could stop before the stripes if someone steps out.

  2. 2

Look at both kerbs, including behind buses and parked vans.

  3. 3

Never pass a car that has stopped at the crossing.
