Pedestrian don't walk signal

The red figure tells people not to start crossing; drivers still give way to anyone already on the road.

What it means

What does a pedestrian don't walk signal mean in NSW?

A tall black box holds two windows. The top one glows red with a standing figure, arms by its sides, and the lower window, where the walking figure lives, is dark. When that red figure flashes, people at the kerb must not step out. Anyone already crossing may keep going to the far side, and a driver turning into that road must give way to them.

What to do

  1. 1

As you turn, check the crossing on the road you are entering.

  2. 2

Give way to anyone still on it, whatever their signal shows.

  3. 3

Turn only once they have reached the footpath.
