What it means

What does the shared zone sign, 10 km/h sign mean in NSW?

A white plate with a red ringed 10 above the words SHARED ZONE marks a street where people on foot and vehicles use the same space, often with no kerb at all. You will find them in laneways, town squares and some new housing estates. Pedestrians have priority anywhere in the zone, even walking down the middle, and the number on the sign is your speed limit.

What to do

  1. 1

Crawl at the posted speed or slower, often close to walking pace.

  2. 2

Give way to anyone on foot, wherever they are in the street.

  3. 3

Watch for children playing and people stepping out of doorways.
