What it means

What does the crossing supervisor's stop sign mean in NSW?

A red octagon on a grey handle reads CHILDREN CROSSING in small white letters above a large white STOP. A crossing supervisor holds it up at a children's crossing near a school. While it is raised, you stop and do not move. You may drive on only once the sign has been lowered or the supervisor waves you through, and nobody is left on the crossing.

What to do

  1. 1

Slow as you near a school crossing with a supervisor on duty.

  2. 2

Stop behind the crossing when the sign goes up.

  3. 3

Wait for the sign to drop and the crossing to empty before moving.
