What it means
What does the stop sign for when the lights are out sign mean in NSW?
Our red octagon has a white panel near the top holding three black circles stacked like a traffic light with every lamp dark, and STOP in white below it. It sits beside a set of signals. While those lights work, follow them. When they are out or flashing yellow, this sign takes over: you make a full stop at the line, then give way before you go.
What to do
1
Check whether the signals are working as you approach.
2
If they are dark or flashing yellow, stop fully at the line.
3
Give way as you would at any stop sign, then go when it is clear.
