Warning sign · Surface and hazards
A raised hump crosses the road ahead, so slow down before it.
What it means
A rounded bump rises from a flat base line in the middle of the diamond. It warns of a raised section across the road, most often a speed hump in a residential street, car park or school area, though it can also mark a sharp rise. Hit it fast and the car can bounce, scrape or lose control, and passengers get a nasty jolt.
Slow to a crawl before the front wheels reach the hump.
Cross it straight on, not at an angle.
Keep a gap, as the car ahead may brake hard for it.
