What it means

A narrow bridge ahead with a truck coming: what should you do?

Over your yellow bonnet, the road pinches in onto a short bridge with white rails on both sides, crossing blue water. A yellow NARROW BRIDGE diamond stands on the left verge, and a truck is already coming across from the far end. There is barely room for you both. Easing off now gives you time to judge the gap and to keep left as the truck goes by.

What to do

  1. 1

Slow down as soon as you see the narrow bridge sign.

  2. 2

Keep well to the left as the oncoming vehicle comes across.

  3. 3

If a give way sign stands before a one-lane bridge, let traffic already on it go first.

NARROWBRIDGE

A truck is heading towards you as you near a two-lane bridge that is barely wide enough for both of you. What is the safest approach?

Right. Not quite. The answer is B.

With so little room, slowing down gives you time to judge the gap and keep left as the truck passes.
