What it means

What does the road narrows sign mean in NSW?

Two thick lines run up the diamond and step inward partway, like a road being squeezed. Ahead there will be less room: a lane may disappear, the shoulder may end, or a bridge or culvert may pinch the road. With oncoming traffic, the space between you and the other car shrinks quickly, and trucks or caravans make it tighter still.

What to do

  1. 1

Slow down and move towards the left edge of your lane.

  2. 2

If a big vehicle is coming, wait before the narrow part and let it through.

  3. 3

Watch for cyclists who may be squeezed towards your path.
