Winding road warning sign

A series of bends is ahead, so keep your speed down for the whole stretch.

Asked in general knowledgeShown in 2 practice questionsAdvisory: it warns, it does not command

What it means

What does the winding road sign mean in NSW?

An S shaped arrow snakes up the yellow diamond, bending right and then back left in our drawing. The message is that one bend leads straight into another, with no straight between them to brake on. It is common on mountain, coastal and hill roads, and sometimes a distance plate below tells you how far the bends go on.

What to do

  1. 1

Pick a speed at the start that suits the tightest bend.

  2. 2

Stay in your lane on every curve, both left and right.

  3. 3

Overtake only once the road straightens and you can see well ahead.
