What it means

What does the side road ahead sign mean in NSW?

A long upright line has a shorter branch coming off one side, in our drawing to the right. It warns that a side road joins your road ahead on that side. Vehicles may pull out of it, and the car in front of you may slow suddenly to turn in. On fast country roads the junction can be easy to miss until you are right on top of it.

What to do

  1. 1

Watch the side road for a car nosing out.

  2. 2

Leave extra room behind anyone who might be turning.

  3. 3

    Avoid overtaking near the junction.
