What it means

What does the kangaroo warning sign with next 30 km plate sign mean in NSW?

The yellow diamond with its hopping black kangaroo sits higher than usual, and a yellow plate underneath reads NEXT 30 km. The plate tells you how far the hazard runs. For that whole stretch, kangaroos may be on or crossing the road, so the care you take at the sign still matters well down the road. Once you are past the distance shown, the warning has ended.

What to do

  1. 1

Note your trip meter or a landmark as you pass the sign.

  2. 2

Keep your speed down and your eyes on both verges for the full distance.

  3. 3

If one jumps out, brake in a straight line rather than swerve.
