What it means
What does the local traffic area 40 sign mean in NSW?
The top of this tall plate is blue, with a small white house outline and the words LOCAL TRAFFIC AREA in white. Below, on white, is a red ringed 40. Every street inside the area carries that limit, even side streets with no sign of their own, until you pass a sign ending the area. These streets are shared with children, bike riders and people on foot.
What to do
1
Drop to 40 km/h as you pass the sign.
2
Keep 40 in every street you turn into until the area ends.
3
Watch closely for kids, cyclists and walkers on the roadway.
