If the continuous line of the pair is on your side, do not cross to overtake, though you may cross to turn right into a side road.
Road Rules 2014 (NSW) rule 132Asked in general knowledgeShown in one practice question
What it means
Continuous line nearer you beside a broken line: what is the rule?
Here the pair of centre lines is reversed: the continuous line runs on your side and the broken one sits beyond it. At the bottom, a white car's attempt to pull out and pass is drawn as a faint dashed arrow with a red cross. Further up, the yellow car signals right and follows its yellow path across both lines into a side road, which is allowed when it is safe.
What to do
1
Read the line closest to your wheels before thinking about passing.
2
Stay behind slower traffic until the marking changes.
3
Cross only to turn into or out of a side road or driveway, by the shortest path.
