Doing a head check before pulling out from the kerb
Signal, check your mirrors, then look over your shoulder as the very last check before you move.

What it means
Doing a head check before pulling out from the kerb: what is the rule?
The yellow car is parked at the kerb beside a grey footpath and is signalling right. A pale wedge behind it is what the mirrors show. A yellow dashed triangle off its right rear corner is the blind spot, and a white car is sitting inside it. Only turning your head over your shoulder would reveal that car before the yellow path pulls out into the lane.
What to do
1
Signal right for at least five seconds before you move off.
2
Check your mirrors for traffic and cyclists coming up.
3
Do a head check over your right shoulder, and go only if the lane is clear.
A practice question with this scene
You are pulling out from the kerb. What is your last check before you move?
Right. Not quite. The answer is C.
A head check over your shoulder covers the blind spot your mirrors miss, so make it the last check before moving.
